Special Regional Council Meeting

That the agenda for the September 10, 2026 Special Regional Council meeting, be approved.

section 259(1)(d) of the Municipal Act, 2001 , as amended, states that the office of a member of council of a municipality becomes vacant if the member resigns from his or her office and the resignation is effective under section 260; And whereas, Councillor P. Fortini, by email dated August 25, 2026, provided notice of his resignation as the Regional Councillor for Wards 7 and 8 in the City of Brampton effective August 26, 2026, which was filed with the Clerk; And whereas, the City of Brampton has provided to the Region of Peel a copy of City of Brampton Resolution Number C194-2026 in which the office of Regional Councillor, Wards 7 and 8 in the City of Brampton was declared vacant under section 262(1); And whereas, section 259 (3) of the Municipal Act, 2001, as amended, states that if one of the offices of a person who is a member of council of both a local municipality and its upper-tier municipality becomes vacant under section 259, the other office also becomes vacant; Now therefore be it resolved, that Councillor Fortini’s seat on Regional Council be deemed vacant.

That By-law 56-2026 to confirm the proceedings of Special Regional Council at its meeting held on September 10, 2026, and to authorize the execution of documents in accordance with the Region of Peel by-laws relating thereto, be given the required number of readings, taken as read, signed by the Regional Chair and the Regional Clerk, and the corporate seal be affixed thereto.
